This past week was the most inspiring week of my life in regard to Bitcoin since I first learned what it was back in January 2018.
I had a number of conversations with dedicated Bitcoiners from around the globe, and each of these conversations resonated deeply with me.
One of these conversations was with Kemal ‘El Flaco’ Yaşar of Galoy and Adopting Bitcoin, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did:
(You can also listen on Apple Podcasts and Spotify.)
What are Galoy and Adopting Bitcoin? Great questions.
I guess you’ll have to watch the video to find out.
Psyche!
Here are some links:

Adoption Bitcoin: https://adoptingbitcoin.org/2023/
(But you should still watch the video.)
Kemal is also a resident of Turkey — a country in which inflation is currently about 40%, recently down from over 80%. Really fun stuff. We discussed this and much more in the interview.
This conversation with Kemal inspired me so much that almost immediately after it, I decided to book my flight to San Salvador, El Salvador to attend this year’s Adopting Bitcoin conference.
You could say that I was so pumped up that I had that Lekker feeling.
What’s this Lekker feeling you speak of, Frank? Well, my friend, I’m glad you asked.
That Lekker Feeling
“Lekker” means “great” or “nice” in South African slang.
Technically, I think the word means “tasty” in Dutch, but it’s often used to describe not just good food but anything good.
So, why am I using it in this newsletter? Another great question. You’re really full of ‘em today.
Aubrey Strobel of Trust Machines and The Aubservation podcast introduced me to the term, as she recently produced the following short film:
I went to the premiere of the film in New York City on Tuesday night. Aubrey explained the meaning of term there, as she also does in the film.
On that note, please check out the film (it’s only 15 minutes long.) It’s about a circular Bitcoin economy in a township (“Ekasi” is slang for township) in South Africa.
And please donate to Bitcoin Ekasi if you too feel inspired by the film:
More than double the 1 BTC goal has already been raised, but you can still donate.
Actually, let’s take a moment to reflect on how amazing it is that about US$60,000 worth of BTC was just donated to a small but growing community in a township in South Africa.
(A moment)
Feels really great, no?
The people of Bitcoin Ekasi now have over 2 BTC to help improve their facilities and programs — such an incredibly beautiful thing.
And you know what else is a beautiful thing? I’ve been in communication with Luthando — the main character in Lekker Feeling and the heart and soul of Bitcoin Ekasi — and I’ll be interviewing him for my podcast this week!
SO MUCH GODDAMN LEKKER FEELING!!! I’M EXPLODING WITH IT!!! AHHHHHH!!!
(And we’re back.)
In honor of the generous donation from Jack (Dorsey, founder of Twitter), let’s take a look at whether or not his company Block (SQ), which owns Cash App (which is a sponsor of The Aubservation) is currently worth investing in…
