Christmas Eve was one of my favorite days of the year as a child.
Every year, on the actual evening of Christmas Eve, my family would head over to my Aunt Barbara and Uncle Sam’s house for a gigantic feast that preceded the unwrapping of gifts.
And on the way home, my sisters and I would peer out of the car windows, searching for Santa in the night sky.
These were beautiful times.
As I got older, the feeling of revelling in anticipation of spending time with family on Christmas Eve and then waking up on Christmas day faded.
It was replaced the a certain anxiety and sadness that sometimes plagues the holiday season, especially in the wake of my father’s passing.
However, this year, I find myself excited on Christmas Eve yet again, though the reason has little to do with the holiday season.
I’m simply pumped to share with you all that I had my first piece published in CoinDesk, one of the bigger outlets in the Bitcoin/crypto space, on Friday.
I wrote it on behalf of Finder.com, and you can read it here: “Is it Really ‘Up Only’ for Bitcoin” (CoinDesk)
In the piece, I shared information on how bitcoin’s price cycles have played out historically, offered my perspective on the macroeconomic situation we’re currently in and reminded readers of best practices when investing in bitcoin.
And this isn’t all that has me pumped.
I also spoke with one of the most incredible innovators in the Bitcoin space — Kgothatso Ngako (KG), the creator of Machankura — for the pod this week.
Machankura is software that allows people to transact over the Bitcoin Lightning Network without an internet connection, a computer or a smart phone.
It enables those who use a feature phone (e.g., an old Nokia cell phone) to transact with bitcoin at low fees. It’s groundbreaking technology, especially for those who wouldn’t otherwise have access to bitcoin because of the hardware and technological infrastructure often required to engage with the network.
If you don’t have time to listen to the entire interview, I highly recommending your listening to this 6-minute clip on KG talking about how his experience as a musician informed the design of Machankura; it’s mind-blowing.
KG is a true renaissance man — the kind we love to showcase here at new renaissance capital.
And please don’t think we’re biased in only showcasing the creative talents of renaissance men here at the newsletter/pod. We love renaissance women, as well.
Hence, I present you with this beautiful rendition of “Silver Bells” from Edith Mpumwire, a Bitcoin Dada grad who was recently featured on the pod, as well.
Be sure to leave a comment on the video to let Edith know how beautiful her voice is!
And with that, I once more wish a Merry Christmas to all who celebrate and a Happy Holidays to everyone else out there!
Big love and big hugs!
Best,
Frank
