Love, Hope and Abundance
Reflections on the Global Bitcoin Summit (and Greetings from Amsterdam!)
“Abundance in money creates scarcity of resources; scarcity in money creates abundance of resources.” -Jeff Booth, author of The Price of Tomorrow
This past week, I attended the Global Bitcoin Summit in Nashville, Tennessee.
The intimate event, hosted by the Human Rights Foundation and Bitcoin Park, was filled with a roster of attendees from 55+ countries across six continents who’ve done exemplary work in the worlds of Bitcoin and activism.
The video below partially captures the incredible vibe at the event:
I say “partially” because the feeling of love and hope in the room during this event was palpable to a nearly indescribable degree.
Activists shared stories of how Bitcoin has helped them do their work, while the Bitcoin enthusiasts in the room learned more about how they can better help these activists.
And when I say activists, I’m talking about people who’ve done everything from help take down dictatorships to empower financially disenfranchised communities around the world. (I wish I could share some of their names, but I can’t out of respect for their privacy.)
To say it was an honor to be in the presence of such people would be quite an understatement.
We Are Bitcoin
While at the event, I had in depth conversations with a number of people whose work I deeply admire, one of whom was Jeff Booth.
During a conversation with Booth after the first day of the event, he shared with me that he has complete confidence that Bitcoin will remain secure and decentralized because “We Are Bitcoin,” and we’ll make it so.
I didn’t quite get what he meant at first, but, when his message really hit me in the middle of that night, I sat up and wrote a piece about it for Bitcoin Magazine.
Booth, in my humble opinion, is one of the best thinkers we have in Bitcoin. He’s also a bit of a spiritual leader for the space. Watch the first 7-8 minutes of the following interview, and I think you’ll see where I’m coming from.
Use Bitcoin To Solve A Problem
A major lesson I learned at the event was that Bitcoin adoption happens much more readily when you show people how to use it to solve problems.
I wrote a piece on this topic for Bitcoin Magazine, as well:
I’d love to spend more time trying to find the words to describe just how optimistic I am for the future and just how much I believe Bitcoin will be a tool to help usher in more love, hope and abundance — at least in contrast to the system of fear, disillusionment and scarcity in which we currently live — but I’m a bit short on time.
I’ve just landed in Amsterdam, where I’ll be hosting a handful of panels as well as anchoring the live desk for Bitcoin Amsterdam 2024.
(If you live in or near Amsterdam and would like to attend the conference, click on the link about and use code “FRANKTHETANK” for 10% off tickets.)
Greetings From Amsterdam (And Please Tune In)!
I’m quite excited to be here, as I’ve watched this conference via YouTube the past two years, and can’t believe I get to be a part of it this year.
I’ll be hosting four panels, all of which can be found here and some of which will be live streamed via the Bitcoin Magazine X handle and the Bitcoin Magazine YouTube page.
Also, as I mentioned, I’ll be anchoring the live desk for a good portion of the event, so please tune in!
One of the panels I’m most excited to host this week is the one with Suriname’s Presidential Candidate, Maya Parbhoe.
Learn more about Maya below. Her story is remarkable. She’s a force of nature.
I’m incredibly grateful to Bitcoin Magazine for giving me the opportunity to be a part of this event this week. Both Bitcoin Magazine and the broader Bitcoin space has given me so much, and I hope to give some of that back as a decent moderator and anchor this week.
Musicians Can Now Earn Bitcoin Their Work
I wrote a piece for Forbes Digital Assets this week on how musicians around the world are earning more in bitcoin via new streaming platforms than they are in fiat via traditional streaming platforms (e.g., Spotify, Apple).
Check out the piece to learn what these new platforms are. And, if you’re an artist, don’t hesitate to start uploading your music to these platforms!
Alright, an evening out on the town in Amsterdam with an old friend is calling, and it’s a call I must heed…
Please tune in to Bitcoin Amsterdam, and, as always, thanks for reading!
Best,
Frank
