I used to make fun of my mom as she would leer out the car window at gas prices and quip about how she knew of a nearby station with cheaper prices. I would get frustrated as she would look through a circular and tell me about how broccoli was cheaper at Stop & Shop than it was at Key Foods. I was above saving a few cents - maybe even a few bucks - here and there, because it didn’t feel like it was worth the effort. But then Fold App and Lolli came into my life, and I became a full-fledged bargain hunting, sats stacking, wheel spinning saver.
I was introduced to both Fold App and Lolli about a year ago. I didn’t pay them much mind when I first learned about them. Within a few months, though, my morning routine began to include spinning the prize wheel on the Fold App as a means to “stack sats”. Prize wheels? Stack sats? What are these words coming out of your mouth, Frank?! Well, the Fold App features a wheel that you can spin every day. When you spin this wheel, you either win some “sats,” which is short for “satoshis”, which are fractions of a Bitcoin, or you win a higher rate of sats back when you use the app to purchase a gift card to one of many different retailers (I often purchase Amazon gift cards through the app.) When you purchase one of these gift cards, you receive sats as a reward. The amount of sats that you receive back is between about 2 and 17% of your purchase. This amount doesn’t exactly put you on the road to becoming a millionaire over night, but it does let you stake your claim to just a little bit more of an asset (Bitcoin) that is permanently constrained to a total of 21 million. And I’m just not above staking my little claim each time. I am so not above it that I recently signed up for and received a Fold debit card in the mail. Fold teamed up with Visa to produce a debit card that allows you to earn Bitcoin (sats) back on each purchase you make. You can get on the waitlist for said debit card via the Fold App. I recommend doing so.
Lolli is quite similar to Fold App. Like Fold App, it has its own version of giving away free sats every day. Instead of a wheel though, you tap on a treasure box, and it explodes sats right into thin air. It’s like a little goddamn miracle. This little explosion has become a part of my morning routine, as well. You usually earn somewhere between the equivalent of 5 and 10 cents in sats for each tap. Again, not much, and, again, I’m not above it. So, tap away I will continue. Lolli also has a web browser extension that pops up when you shop on the site of a retailer that is affiliated with Lolli. The browser extension lets you know what percentage of sats your online purchase will earn you. Like Fold App, reward rates vary. Also, like Fold App, Lolli has some pretty heavy hitting partners in its rewards program including Microsoft, Sephora, and Staples. So, if this paragraph on Lolli has tempted you to download the app, let them know that Frank sent you and use my invite reward code: UDT2ZK. I get a whole dollar back for each recommendation.
So, Mom, I get it now. I’m on board. You’ll never hear me crack a joke or exhale forcefully in reaction your explaining to me that the tofu at Food Town is much cheaper than the tofu at Trader Joes. While yours is a game of cents, and mine is a game of sats, I can see now that we are on the same team.
Love,
Frankie
P.S. So, apparently, I will be writing more than once per week for now.
